The time has come! We are once again accepting submissions for this year’s playwriting festival.

This year’s theme is ‘Facing Reality’. All of us have had to make hard choices in life. We’ve been faced with options and had to face difficult realities. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to even distinguish what is real and what’s not. All we are left with is facing our own realities. Let the theme inspire you to create something amazing!

Here’s how to participate!

We will start off the festival with ‘pitch night’ where potential playwrights will pitch their ideas. Scripts DO NOT have to be completely finished at this point, but a general structure should be visible. Pitch night will take place on the 4th of February at New Visions Theatre (Na Celné 508/3). So get your ideas rolling, you have the holiday months to prepare your pitch! Directors, actors, scenographers, etc are welcome to start making connections with playwrights.

(Pitches should include synopsis, estimated run time, number of actors, necessary props, if you want to self direct, and any other relevant information for your play)

General festival format:

The holiday season is a perfect time for writing. As many will be on holiday, this will be the time to develop your ideas and start writing your play.

4th of February: Pitch night. Come with a description of your play with the elements listed above.

3rd of March: A ROUGH BUT FUNCTIONAL DRAFT is to be presented. Drafts should be prepared to be presented to directors and given to the actors to read.

7th of April: FINAL DRAFTS must be given. They can of course be presented sooner. The sooner the better for casting. At this point, scripts must be solidified.

Casting will begin the 7th of April or sooner based on the presentation of the final drafts and will continue until needed roles are filled. Auditions will take place based on need and availability.

Rehearsals will begin by April. Rehearsals are to be arranged by the respective directors of the shows and their teams. At this point, plays MUST be in a final format and may NOT be changed in order to respect the actors and directors working on the show.

Final presentation of the festival will take place around the end of May with the exact dates to be announced as the time approaches. Tentatively, we are looking at the 25th-26th of May depending on availability and final confirmations.
