About the event

Día de muertos: one of the most misunderstood days and celebrations. So, let us tell you a little more...

Day of the dead is a celebration of life and a day to spend time in spirit with the people who have passed before us. It is a day of happiness and remembrance. The holiday is usually observed on the 1st and 2nd of November in Mexico with people making offerings to their dead loved ones and sharing stories of their lives. People often bring the favourite foods and beverages of their loved ones to put on their ofrendas.

We would like to invite you to come celebrate life with us! We will set up an ofrenda downstairs in the theatre room. All are welcome to come and bring a picture of their deacesed loved ones to place on it. We will begin making the ofrenda a few days before, so feel free to stop by the theatre to add your pictures. We will leave the ofrenda up for a week if people are interested in coming and leaving pictures to share.

We will celebrate downstairs and be merry. We will share fun stories of our relatives. Please feel free to bring some food dishes to share with others or snacks. We will have a full party! Part of the celebration is bringing the favourite foods, drinks, and snacks of our beloved ones to remember their favourite treats that made them happy. We will partake of them as well as offer some up on our ofrenda.

Aditional drinks will be available for purchase upstairs at the Literary Love Café if requested.

Please be aware that this is a cultural celebration. That being said, day of the dead is not 'Mexican Halloween'. Please do not come wearing Halloween costumes. Save those please for the Halloween party.

However, day of the dead is known for its beautiful face paintings. Please feel free to come with a painted face. We will bring some supplies to help everyone be more colourful. Again, please bare in mind that this is traditional face painting. Please do not come with gory Halloween makeup or something that is disrespectful to this cultural holiday.

We are looking forward to this beautiful celebration! Please let us know if you have any questions.
